Does an AI handoff mean a software purchase was completed?
A handoff marks the task's endpoint, not a completed software purchase. Agent Gap recorded 163 reached outcomes across 210 initial website tasks on 6 October 2026. That result does not supply a count of submitted forms, booked meetings, paid orders or deployed products.
What we measured
Measured. The Agent Gap endpoint method used the ChatGPT Work browser interface for three public browsing tasks across 70 selected vendors. The reached counts were 67 of 70 for Describe, 52 of 70 for Pricing page and 44 of 70 for Demo path, adding to 163 of 210 initial sessions. Thirty preselected repeats were reported separately.
The task labels matter. The combined 163 includes description and pricing work as well as demo paths; it must not be presented as 163 purchases or even 163 demo requests. The study recorded distinct discovery, correctness and endpoint fields using one assistant interface.
Its 6 October 2026 observations do not establish a transaction-completion rate or later buyer behaviour.

What this means for you
Reasoned. Read the stopping condition before quoting the success count. If the task stops at a page, call it a page reached. If it stops at a handoff to a person, identify that handoff. A subsequent event needs its own record.
For a claimed purchase, look for the appropriate business evidence, such as a confirmed order with its date and status. Do not manufacture that status from an assistant's account of where it intended to go next.
- If you manage the website: state what the next action requires and where responsibility passes to a person.
- If you evaluate an agent service: ask which specific event ended the test and which later events were outside its scope.
- If you report the result: preserve the separate task bases so a correct description is not counted as a commercial transaction.
The unobserved purchase outcome is unknown, rather than a zero or a sale. That distinction also protects a useful handoff result: it can demonstrate progress through a defined task without needing to carry a stronger claim about revenue.
