What evidence can connect AI visibility with pipeline?
Connect dated answer observations to separately recorded visits, buyer accounts and opportunities, keeping the evidence for each step. Housecall Pro was named in 108 of 150 field service answers captured on 22 September 2026, but the count alone does not establish any visits or sales. To say more, you need records of those later events and a stated basis for connecting them.
What we measured
Measured. The September Absence Index records answers, not customer journeys. Housecall Pro’s field service collection retained 150 valid answers from ten buyer questions, repeated three times on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. The answers were captured 22 September 2026 and published 23 September under DOI 10.5281/zenodo.22907695.
Its 108 named answers give 72.0 percent, with a Wilson 95 percent interval of 64.3 to 78.6 percent. Its own domain was cited in 43 of 150 answers, or 28.7 percent. A citation can provide a possible route to a site, but the record does not show that a buyer followed it. We cannot calculate a lead rate or revenue contribution from these answer counts.
The Manual’s AI source attribution standard provides the framework for reading business evidence alongside these observations. The process below is a reasoned reporting approach, not a measured conversion result for Housecall Pro.
What this means for you
Reasoned. Keep a separate record for each part of the proposed connection. The answer record names the question, engine, date, company role and cited page. A visit record contains the source information actually received and the period observed. A buyer’s account records what that person says influenced them. An opportunity or sale needs its own business record and status.
Connect records only where the evidence permits it. A recognised referral label supports a narrower statement than a complete influence history. A buyer may remember using an AI service without identifying the answer or arriving through its link. Record that account as a self-report rather than turning it into a recovered browsing trail.
- If you run marketing: publish the connection rule with the result. State which records were matched, which came from buyer reports and which still have an unknown source.
- If you manage sales: retain the buyer’s actual account and the dated opportunity record. Do not replace an unknown source with AI because the company appeared in a separate answer check.
- If you sell software: distinguish the question where you were named from the buyer’s later decision. The answer may concern a need that never became a purchase.
- If you report for an agency: show visibility, referrals and opportunities in separate columns. Name a missing record instead of treating it as either a sale or a zero.
A before-and-after chart also needs care. Publication, answer changes and opportunities can occur in the same period without showing that one caused the next. Keep their dates and other known changes visible. If the join cannot be supported, report the observed answer result and leave the pipeline contribution unknown.
