How should I compare GEO quotes with different question sets?
Two GEO quotes cover different work when their question sets test different buyer decisions. In Study 7's construction collection captured on 22 September 2026, workflow fit appeared in 17 of 149 eligible answers, or 11.4 percent. A question bank centred on that need cannot be treated as interchangeable with a bank centred on a different category or task.
What we measured
Measured. Study 7's method extracted AI-stated criteria before the first vendor name. Its construction analysis used the 22 September 2026 captures, retained 149 answers and recorded workflow fit in 17, with a Wilson 95 percent interval of 7.2 to 17.5 percent. This derived base differs from the original Index's construction base of 150 because of an additional study exclusion. Criteria are not independently verified buyer requirements, and team review remains in progress.
For a separate category example, the September Index method recorded Housecall Pro named in 108 of 150 field service answers on 22 September. Naming a vendor and stating a criterion are different events; the figures cannot be combined into one score.
What this means for you
Reasoned. Ask each supplier to classify its proposed questions by reader decision before you compare the total price. Keep the intended buyer, category, discovery or comparison task, and required engine coverage visible. A large collection of close wording variants does not necessarily cover more decisions than a smaller, carefully chosen bank.
Next, compare the observation plan: repeats, collection dates, retained answers and exclusions. Quote units need the same meaning. A price per question may cover several engine runs, while another quote counts every scheduled run separately. Ask what the price includes after collection, such as evidence review, a delivered report or an implemented page change.
Use the comparison to choose the scope you need, not to manufacture a universal price per question. The construction figure illustrates a scoped observed criterion; it is not a benchmark for how many questions any supplier must sell.
- For a buyer: compare the decisions covered before ranking quotes by volume.
- For an agency: keep the client category and intended reader beside every proposed question group.
- For a supplier: explain which repeat and delivery units are included in the quoted count.
