How can I check whether a GEO tool covers the engines I need?

Ask the supplier to show the named engine, retained answer and valid base for each surface you need. On one construction buyer question captured on 22 September 2026, Procore appeared in zero of three Google AI Overviews answers and all three Google AI Mode answers. A column labelled only Google would hide that distinction.

What we measured

Measured. The September Index method used ten buyer questions per category and three repeats on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. This example isolates one small-builder question and its three valid answers per Google surface. It records naming, not an engine-specific own-domain citation rate. Three observations on one question cannot establish a stable engine-wide advantage, a product ranking or a supplier's current coverage.

What this means for you

Reasoned. Make a coverage sheet before buying access. Give each required surface its own row, then ask for a sample answer with collection date, query conditions, successful observations and exclusions. The supplier's product page can describe intended support; the sample demonstrates what its export actually contains under those conditions.

Check the unit as well as the logo. A web-search result, a generated answer and an answer's source list are different records. If your decision concerns being named in a generated answer, an export of ordinary search positions does not supply that event. A supplier should explain whether a field comes from a live observation, a stored record or a different measurement.

Finally, write down what happens when one surface returns no usable answer. A missing engine row should remain visible. It must not silently become a brand absence or disappear into a blended total that looks comparable to the previous report.

  • If you buy a tool: request a sample export for each required surface before comparing headline scores.
  • If you report to clients: keep Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode separately named.
  • If you compare vendors: compare the same event and valid base, not the number of logos on a feature page.

Use the Free 10-question check (one engine). No email is needed; runs are limited per network and per day, and by the site's daily allowance. Keep the check's single engine separate from any multi-engine procurement requirement.
