How should a vendor correct outdated facts after a public change?

Correct the current source while preserving the date and meaning of the earlier fact. Wrong About You labelled five of 2,922 classified statements stale in answers captured on 22 and 23 September 2026 and checked against vendor pages read on 8 October. The practical task is to show what changed, when it changed and which present statement the evidence supports.

What we measured

Measured. The five stale labels in Wrong About You came from 2,922 classified statements about 70 vendors. The method assessed 22 and 23 September 2026 answers against vendor pages read on 8 October, distinguishing stale from wrong and unverifiable. Team review remains in progress. A stale label is not proof that every earlier use of the fact was false.

Change Desk's software-transaction study supplies a separate state-and-time example. It retained 150 valid answers captured on 24 October 2026 and recorded 25 reviewed adverse cells. Its 26 October published method used fixed questions with as-of cutoffs and source versions frozen for each window. Answer counts and adverse-cell counts are different units. This evidence does not establish a current transaction or company relationship elsewhere.

What this means for you

Reasoned. Start with a short change record: the earlier supported fact, the event or effective date, and the primary source for the new state. A planned transaction, announced change and completed change are not interchangeable. If the effective state is unresolved, keep it unresolved rather than making a smoother sentence.

Update the pages you control with explicit dates and matching terminology. Preserve a historical name or product fact where the page is clearly historical; correct it where it is presented as current. Then review summaries, comparison pages and official company information for the same claim. A correction request to an outside publisher needs its own precise source record.

After the change is served, keep that delivery receipt separate from later AI observations. A page edit shows what you published. Only another dated answer record can show how an engine represented the fact afterward. Neither study supplies a universal waiting period or a guarantee that every old answer will change.

  • For a vendor: keep the effective date beside the new company fact.
  • For a publisher: distinguish historical truth from a current contradiction.
  • For an agency: record the served correction separately from any subsequent answer observation.
