What is an AI software shortlist?
Procore appeared in all three Google AI Mode answers to one small-builder construction question captured 22 September 2026. The returned options form an AI software shortlist: a set of products put forward for that buyer's question. The 3 of 3 observation is not a complete market ranking or evidence of what a buyer chose.
What we measured
Measured. The September Index protocol asked each category's ten questions three times on five named engines: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. This example isolates one construction question and its three valid AI Mode answers from 22 September 2026.
Procore, Buildertrend and Contractor Foreman were each named in all three answers in that cell. The checked vendor counts record appearance, not the order of a ranked list. Procore's 3 of 3 result has a descriptive Wilson 95 percent interval of 43.9 to 100.0 percent, calculated with the published helper.
Three observations do not establish a stable preference, a full-market list or product suitability.

What this means for you
Reasoned. Read the task before reading the names. A small builder and a large contractor can need different things, even though both questions concern construction software. The answer's wording and product descriptions matter as much as the extracted names.
Distinguish the options actually proposed from names used only in a comparison or as source attribution. If the role is unclear, retain the sentence and mark the ambiguity rather than silently treating every name as a recommendation.
- If you buy software: use the returned list to identify options to investigate, then check requirements against dated product evidence.
- If you sell software: inspect which buyer needs the question expresses before interpreting an appearance or omission.
- If you report the list: keep the exact question, engine, date and repeat base beside it. Do not label these three runs as three independent buyers.
The term shortlist also does not tell you whether the answer searched the whole category. The Index has a declared checked vendor set; the market may contain other products. Preserve that scope when explaining who appeared and who did not.
