Does finding a page prove an AI assistant understood it?
No. Page discovery and task correctness were different fields in Agent Gap: all 210 initial sessions found the target pages, but 206 results were correct, 3 incorrect and 1 unscored. Those observations were collected on 6 October 2026, and they do not establish a general measure of an assistant's understanding.
What we measured
Measured. The Agent Gap scoring method used the ChatGPT Work browser interface across 70 selected vendors and three tasks per vendor: Describe, Pricing page and Demo path. Each initial task recorded found, correct and reached separately. Thirty preselected repeat sessions are outside the 210-session initial base.
The correctness count spans all three task types. It is not a description-only score or an assessment of the assistant's internal reasoning. One pricing result was left unscored, so the record does not force every discovered page into a correct/incorrect verdict.
These fields describe the recorded tasks on their date, not a universal comprehension rate or a product-quality test.
Our answer-study method, v1.1.
What this means for you
Reasoned. Separate three questions when someone presents a successful browsing example: did the assistant locate the intended page, did its task result agree with the evidence, and did it reach the required destination? A screenshot of the first condition cannot settle the other two.
Review the returned statement against the source passage. Look for a changed currency, an omitted qualification or a feature inferred from a neighbouring claim. Preserve uncertainty where the evidence cannot support a verdict.
- If you publish software information: use explicit statements rather than expecting the assistant to infer an important qualification.
- If you evaluate an assistant: inspect at least the page and the task result together. Keep the scoring rule beside both.
- If you write the report: call the field correctness, with its stated rule, rather than turning it into an unsupported claim of understanding.
Reaching a destination needs another check. Agent Gap recorded 163 reached outcomes, but that field is not a replacement for correctness either. A page can be accessible, a statement can be accurate and a later buying action can still remain outside the record.
