Can a GEO agency guarantee AI recommendations?
A GEO supplier can commit to specified work and delivery evidence; a future AI recommendation needs its own observation. Housecall Pro was named in 108 of 150 answers captured on 22 September 2026. That dated count is not a recommendation guarantee, and naming alone does not establish that an answer endorsed the product.
What we measured
Measured. The September Absence Index, published on 23 September 2026, asked ten fixed buyer questions in field service management, three times on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Housecall Pro's 22 September record retained 150 valid answers. Its naming rate was 72.0 percent, with a Wilson 95 percent interval of 64.3 to 78.6 percent. Counts describe the dated question set; they do not establish future presence, a buyer's purchase or a product-quality ranking.
On one construction question in the same release, Procore was named in zero of three Google AI Overviews answers and three of three Google AI Mode answers on 22 September. That is a small, scoped observation, not a general engine ranking.
What this means for you
Reasoned. Read an outcome guarantee by asking what event would satisfy it. A brand name, a source link, a recommendation and an eventual sale are separate events. Ask which one the supplier means, on which questions and engines, and how you would inspect the answer. A promise whose event is undefined cannot be assessed through a percentage alone.
Then separate the supplier's controllable work. A factual page correction can have an agreed source, approved wording, served URL and delivery check. A measurement report can have a defined question set, retained records and calculation. These are concrete commitments to work. They do not turn the next answer from an external engine into something the supplier has demonstrated it can control.
Keep that distinction in the acceptance criteria. If a supplier offers an additional commercial promise, ask for its exact written terms and evidence instead of assuming that it changes what the data proves. The relevant purchase question is whether the delivered work is defined and inspectable, not whether a confident forecast sounds reassuring.
- If you buy GEO: name the delivered report or source change you can accept independently of an engine response.
- If you sell GEO: distinguish a commitment to work from a forecast about later answers.
- If you compare results: keep naming, citation and recommendation events separate.
