What does GEO mean in AI search?
If someone offers you GEO, ask what source-backed change they will make. The letters mean generative engine optimization: work intended to improve how a company is represented in generated answers. Housecall Pro was named in 108 of 150 field service answers captured 22 September 2026, but that count does not establish that a GEO programme caused the result.
What we measured
Measured. The September Index method used ten fixed buyer questions per category, three runs each on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Housecall Pro's field service record retained 150 valid answers from 22 September 2026; the release was published 23 September.
Its naming rate was 72.0 percent, with a Wilson 95 percent interval of 64.3 to 78.6 percent. Its own domain was cited in 43 of 150 answers, or 28.7 percent. Naming and citation are separate observed events, and neither is a record of work performed on a website.
The collection did not test a GEO intervention or measure a resulting sale.
Every figure comes from the published method, v1.1.
What this means for you
Reasoned. The practice label describes an intended kind of work, not an agreed measurement or deliverable. Ask what question the work addresses, which source or page will change and what evidence will demonstrate completion. Then define any later answer check separately.
For example, correcting a supported product fact on a public page can be a concrete deliverable. Whether a later answer uses that fact is another observation. Describing both as “GEO” does not make the second an automatic consequence of the first.
- If you buy the work: ask for the particular buyer question and the source-backed change, rather than accepting the acronym as a scope.
- If you sell software: retain the original answer and the source behind the proposed correction so you can inspect what changed.
- If you report results: separate work completed from naming or citation measured afterwards, with dates for each.
Other labels such as answer engine optimization and LLM optimization may be used for related work. The useful comparison is what each supplier actually proposes to do and how it will be checked. A different acronym supplies no evidence of a different outcome.

Use Free 10-question check (one engine) to identify a specific answer observation before discussing a piece of GEO work. No email is needed; runs are limited per network and per day, and by the site's daily allowance.
For a defined source-backed page or fact change, Fix one answer, $490. Keep its completion check separate from any later engine result.
Claiming or correcting a vendor record is free and never depends on a purchase.
