GEO basics answers
Definitions, question sets and the difference between being cited and being chosen.
These 10 answers use dated Broadcastwell findings. Each page identifies its question, figure and source; a count in an answer does not establish product quality or a completed sale.
Definitions
AI visibility needs a defined event: Housecall Pro was named in 108 of 150 answers, while 43 also cited its domain.
What does GEO mean in AI search?
GEO means generative engine optimization; Housecall Pro 108/150 is a visibility observation, not proof that a GEO programme worked.
Reading shortlists
What is an AI software shortlist?
An AI shortlist is a set of suggested options: Procore appeared in 3/3 AI Mode answers on one construction question on 22 September 2026.
Does an AI brand mention mean the product was recommended?
Read the name in context: Volume II found 25 of 85 companies cited more often than named in 18 to 23 July 2026 answers.
Naming and sources
Can an AI answer cite a company without naming it?
Yes: 9 of 85 companies were cited from their own domains despite never being named in the 18 to 23 July 2026 Volume II sample.
Evidence boundaries
Does an AI shortlist show what buyers actually purchase?
No purchase result follows from 2,095 valid answers: the September Index observed generated responses, not buyer transactions.
Does being named by AI prove product quality?
Naming is not a product test: Wrong About You labelled 113 wrong, 5 stale and 880 unverifiable statements among 2,922.
Web information
Can AI search use information from the live web?
Search-enabled AI can use web information; Procore 0/3 AIO versus 3/3 Mode records naming, not a guaranteed fresh page fetch.
Repeated answers
Why can the same AI question produce different names?
Repeated questions varied on 4 August 2026: Claude mean vendor-set agreement was 0.442 across 74 pairs; AI Overviews 0.499 across 62.
Counting observations
Are failed AI answers the same as a brand absence?
No: the September Index excluded 5 of 2,100 scheduled observations, leaving 2,095 valid answers; an exclusion is not a brand miss.
