Which legal practice software does ChatGPT recommend?

Clio appeared in 25 of 30 ChatGPT legal-practice answers captured on 22 September 2026, and 8am MyCase in 18. On the personal-injury-firm question, Clio appeared in all three answers while 8am MyCase appeared in none. That is a practice-specific naming observation, without an assessment of either product's fitness for legal work.

What we measured

Measured. Three ChatGPT captures of each of ten legal-practice questions produced 30 valid answers in the September Index. Clio's 25 of 30 is 83.3 percent, with a descriptive 95 percent Wilson interval of 66.4 to 92.7 percent. The captures are dated 22 September 2026, and the release was published on 23 September.

The checked set contains 21 vendors, of which ten appeared at least once. For the three-to-five-attorney question, Clio, 8am MyCase, PracticePanther and Smokeball each appeared in all three answers. The complete alphabetical table also keeps vendors with zero observations. It counts names once within an answer, rather than grading an endorsement or dividing a legal-software market into shares.

What this means for you

Reasoned. Use the type of practice and the actual work to choose a question. The panel spans a one-attorney office, a small firm, personal-injury case management and a litigation firm moving away from on-premise software. Those contexts should remain attached to the names that arose from them.

Set the product check at the level of the requirement. If the decision concerns a connection, record handling or another operational task, find documentation for the exact product and applicable terms. Do not let a fluent AI description stand in for that evidence. This collection did not assess professional obligations, the handling of client material or suitability for an individual firm.

For a comparison page or internal report, distinguish the dated name count from your conclusion about a product. A zero row is a result within these questions, not proof that a vendor is unavailable. A high count does not remove the need for your own documented evaluation, and the study cannot identify which website edit would cause a future answer to change.

If a retained answer makes one incorrect legal-software product claim, Fix one answer, $490 can address the supported factual change. The correction's scope should stay with that statement and its served source page.

Every figure comes from the published method, v1.1.
