What does a recorded AI referral establish?
A recorded AI referral establishes that your measurement system recorded a visit under its referrer-identification rules. It does not by itself reveal the full answer, the visitor's intent or a completed sale. Housecall Pro's 108 named answers and 43 own-domain-cited answers, out of 150 captured on 22 September 2026, were answer observations rather than referral records.
What we measured
Measured. The September Index observed ten fixed field-service questions, with three scheduled runs on each of five engines. Housecall Pro's naming rate was 108 of 150, or 72.0%, with a descriptive 95% Wilson interval of 64.3% to 78.6%. Its own-domain citation count was 43 of 150, or 28.7%, with interval 22.0% to 36.4%.
The naming event and citation event were recorded in captured answers under the release's matching rule. The collection did not record website visits, identify people or follow them into a sales system. It therefore supplies no referral click total or conversion rate.
Reasoned. A visit classified by referrer can answer a different question from a saved AI answer. Without a retained connection between them, a source link in one captured answer cannot explain a particular visit. Even an identified visit leaves later commercial steps to their own records.

What this means for you
Keep the event name visible in a report: answer named a company, answer cited a domain, system recorded a visit, or sales system recorded an opportunity. Giving each event a date and source makes missing connections apparent.
Inspect how a referral was classified before interpreting it. Missing or incomplete referrer information is a limitation of the record, with no basis for filling in the user's question or identity.
If you connect a visit to a later enquiry, retain the supporting record and disclose the boundary of that connection. A visit is evidence of that recorded event; the business meaning comes from additional evidence, not the word “AI” in a traffic label.
