Does Google-Extended control AI Overview or AI Mode visibility?
No. Google-Extended covers certain training and grounding uses in other Google systems; its Search AI features use Googlebot and Search preview controls, according to the guide we read on 28 October 2026. Our own 4 August collection recorded 258 Overview results in 280 main searches, but did not test Google-Extended settings. Those counts cannot establish what a bot-policy change would cause.
What we measured
Reported. Google's AI-feature guide, read on 28 October 2026, identifies Googlebot robots directives as controls for Search crawling. It lists Search preview controls for limiting information shown from pages, and refers separately to Google-Extended for training and grounding in some other Google systems. Our bot-access reference also records a 20 October review of Google's crawler documentation.
Measured. The Volume III collection recorded 258 successful Overviews and 22 searches without an Overview among 280 main Google searches on 4 August 2026. These are answer-status observations from a dated question set. The study did not vary website access policies, audit each vendor's robots rules or test an inclusion intervention.
Reasoned. A training or grounding policy should be judged for its stated purpose. A Search visibility question requires the Search-specific eligibility and access checks. Neither allowing a documented crawler nor seeing an Overview in a study guarantees that a particular page will be selected as a supporting link.
Our answer-study method, v1.1.
What this means for you
Before changing a crawler rule, identify the purpose you intend to control. Keep that policy decision separate from a claim that your company will appear in an AI answer.
For Search inclusion, inspect the actual page's crawl access, indexing eligibility and snippet eligibility using the relevant Google documentation. A generic statement that “AI bots are allowed” does not tell you which access condition applies.
When reporting an answer observation, save the date and the visible result. If you want to attribute a later difference to an access change, that needs evidence beyond the historical Overview counts given here.

Use Free 10-question check (one engine) to observe an answer after making a separate, informed access-policy decision; the result does not certify the policy. No email is needed; runs are limited per network and per day, and by the site's daily allowance.
If an accessible source contains the factual mistake used in an answer, Fix one answer, $490 can address that source-backed problem. It does not sell crawler permission or guaranteed Search selection.
