Which sources do AI answers cite for veterinary software?

A veterinary-software citation can point to a directory, a supplier or another publisher. Answers captured on 22 September 2026 cited capterra.com in 61 of 149 and digitail.com in 52, pooled across five engines. The recorded link is a starting point for checking the adjacent claim, rather than proof that the whole source or product was endorsed.

What we measured

Measured. The September release repeated ten veterinary-software questions three times on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. One scheduled Overview response returned no valid search result, leaving 149 valid answers. Each exact host counts once in an answer. capterra.com's 61 of 149 is 40.9 percent, with a descriptive 95 percent Wilson interval of 33.4 to 49.0 percent. Capture was 22 September 2026; publication followed on 23 September.

Selected cited host Valid answers citing that host
capterra.com 61 of 149
digitail.com 52 of 149
puppilot.co 44 of 149
shepherd.vet 41 of 149
softwareadvice.com 46 of 149
waitwellsoftware.com 46 of 149

The six selected examples are alphabetical within an inventory of 113 hosts; the table does not show every source. Host boundaries matter here: shepherd.vet appeared in 41 answers and help.shepherd.vet in four. software.idexx.com appeared in 40, while idexx.com appeared in seven. Keep those records distinct. The numbers count answer appearances, not individual links, readers or software purchases.

What this means for you

Reasoned. Begin with the practice decision and one factual claim to verify. A source attached to the small-practice comparison may not resolve the question facing a multi-location hospital. Open the saved answer for the relevant situation and preserve the exact destination, rather than searching a domain and assuming the first page was cited.

Identify what kind of page you reached. A directory entry, product description and support article may establish different details about the same system. Note the product identity, stated conditions and date beside the passage. A familiar host name cannot replace that check, and a source without the needed detail leaves the claim unresolved.

Use the subdomain distinction when sharing evidence with colleagues. A support article can be a different document from a supplier's main website. Keep the full destination so another reader can assess the same passage. Do not merge separate hosts merely to create a larger citation figure or attribute all of their pages to one recorded event.

If your team publishes a comparison, correct only what the evidence supports. Record the original claim, the resolving source and the wording you intend to serve. The count does not establish that a page needs changing, that a paid placement would help or that a later answer will select a different vendor. Those are separate questions requiring their own observations.

Choose one veterinary-software statement from Free 10-question check (one engine) and check the cited document for the precise detail. No email is needed; runs are limited per network and per day, and by the site's daily allowance.

Where that check establishes one inaccurate source-page fact, Fix one answer, $490 can give the correction a clear publication check.

Every figure comes from the published method, v1.1.

Claiming or correcting a vendor record is free and never depends on a purchase.
