How should I choose content for SEO, AEO and GEO?

For a team choosing between an accounting-integration explainer and a broad construction article, the unanswered buyer decision should determine the brief. In the AI Written RFP dataset, the 22 and 23 September 2026 captures yielded 2,003 category-specific criteria.

What we measured

Measured. The AI Written RFP study method extracted criteria stated before the first vendor name. Its 2,003 total adds criterion records from 14 software categories; it does not mean 2,003 globally unique questions. The derived coding base contains 2,093 eligible answers from 2,100 scheduled answers. That is the study's own answer base, rather than the original Index's retained-answer count.

One construction criterion was integration with existing accounting or ERP software. It appeared in 3 of 149 eligible construction answers, with a published interval from 0.7% to 5.8%. This is an observed topic for a content brief. The criteria remain under team review and are neither validated product capabilities nor an experiment showing that a content format raises visibility.

Reported. Google's AI-features publisher guidance, read on 29 October 2026, says its existing SEO practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode. It specifies no additional requirements or special optimisation for those features. A supporting page must be indexed and eligible for a Search snippet; Google does not guarantee that it will crawl, index or serve a qualifying page.

What this means for you

Reasoned. For that accounting-integration question, a useful brief would ask which accounting system is supported, what information moves and where the product's documented limits sit. A general article about construction technology would leave those details unanswered. The criterion supplies a question to investigate, not proof that any particular vendor meets it.

A blog post can carry an explanation or a worked example when that is the information the buyer lacks. When the missing detail is a product's integration scope, the evidence may belong on the product or integration page instead. Put the fact where the buyer can verify it. The acronym does not choose the format.

Keep the SEO, AEO and GEO briefs tied to the same underlying question when they address the same decision. Three near-identical pages with different acronym labels would not add three different answers. A short answer can introduce the fact; the supporting page can hold the named systems, conditions and dated receipt.

Google's guidance also leaves a practical distinction between editorial work and eligibility. If the relevant page is missing from the index or cannot supply a snippet, commissioning another article does not explain that technical state. If it is eligible but lacks the accounting detail, the content task has a specific missing fact to address.
