Is the AI Overview gone?
A missing AI Overview does not mean the feature has gone away. Google's help still described it when we read the page on 29 October 2026, and says its systems decide when to show one. Our September residential property management panel retained valid Overviews for 28 of 30 scheduled targets on 22 September. That dated count is evidence of variable returns in that panel, not a check of Google's service today.
What we measured
Measured. 22 September 2026; release 2026-09.
Each target was one repeat of one buyer question. Ten questions and three repeats made the scheduled base of 30. The two exclusions explicitly recorded that no Overview was returned. One concerned Buildium versus AppFolio; the other asked what to look for in property-management software. Their remaining repeats had retained Overview responses.
You can inspect those engine bases in the September release. Its method excludes the no-Overview returns before calculating vendor presence. An excluded target does not mean Buildium, AppFolio or another supplier was omitted from a valid answer. There was no answer to score for that target.
We did not record a cause for either absence. The panel cannot distinguish a product change from query selection, an account condition or a temporary problem. It also cannot establish a current return rate from searches captured in September.
Reported. The feature description and search-view instructions come from Google's consumer help, read on 29 October 2026. That document is separate from our September capture.
What this means for you
Reasoned. Start with the search view. Google's help says the Web filter presents text links without features such as AI Overviews. If you selected that filter, the missing box is consistent with the chosen view; it does not show that Google removed Overviews from Search.
Then check the product. An Overview embedded in a search result and the separate AI Mode conversation are different surfaces. The help describes a mobile route from an Overview into AI Mode, but that route does not make the two interfaces identical. Losing a box on the results page is not enough to diagnose the state of an AI Mode conversation.
There is no promised box. Google's explanation ties display to whether its systems find generative assistance useful for the query. Its availability list, read on 29 October, includes the United States and English; that still does not promise an Overview for every eligible search. The page also carries a warning about changing Search settings.

Use Free 10-question check (one engine) to inspect a limited set of buyer questions. Keep a missing response separate from a valid answer that omits your company. No email is needed; runs are limited per network and per day, and by the site's daily allowance.
For one documented gap, Fix one answer, $490. Keep the question and source receipt with the requested change.
Every figure comes from the published method, v1.1.
