How can a local auto-glass business appear in Google AI and ChatGPT answers?
If your auto-glass shop is missing from a 'near me' answer, separate a recommendation of the shop from a citation of its website. Our 18 to 23 July 2026 study found 9 of 85 B2B software companies were never named but had their own domain cited. For a local business, the practical checks are search eligibility, accurate business details and the location attached to the question.
What we measured
Measured. State of GEO Volume II study method recorded ten buyer questions for each of 85 B2B software companies, with one run through one engine using live web search, from 18 to 23 July 2026. Nine companies had zero brand appearances while their own domains appeared as cited sources. The study does not establish local auto-glass results or the effect of a website change.
Reported. Google's AI features guidance, read on 29 October 2026, says a supporting page must be indexed and eligible for a Search snippet. Its practical advice includes keeping Business Profile information current. It does not require a special AI file or a new schema type.
OpenAI's Search help, read on 29 October 2026, describes location-sensitive local results and website search eligibility. Its crawler documentation, read that day, separates OAI-SearchBot access for search from GPTBot access for model training.
What this means for you
Reasoned. For a mobile windshield service, the town and service area are part of the request. Check that your public business details describe where the van actually travels and which glass work the business performs. A page about vehicle glass safety can be useful source material without identifying a nearby operator who can replace a windshield.
For the shop's public service page, check the search access described by each platform. Google identifies indexed, snippet-eligible pages; OpenAI identifies OAI-SearchBot and the host or content-delivery network's treatment of its requests. Changing a GPTBot training setting answers a different question from allowing that service page into ChatGPT search.
Record the town. OpenAI says approximate IP-derived location can shape local results, and its help suggests specifying a city, neighborhood or postal code when the area is wrong. When you retain an auto-glass answer, keep that location wording beside the returned shop names. Then open any citation to see whether it points to your own service page, another operator or a general glass article.
