How can I defend branded search results against lookalike sites that confuse LLMs?

The Agent Gap method separates finding a company’s public endpoint from describing it correctly: one of seventy initial Describe tasks was labeled incorrect on 6 October 2026. For a suspected lookalike, preserve the disputed answer, its exact cited URL and your dated company reference before attributing the error or specifying a correction.

What we measured

Measured. The published Agent Gap method and release records the AppFolio Describe task as found and reached, but not correct. It is the single incorrect initial Describe task among seventy. This is a task classification, not a finding that a clone site caused the error.

Reported. Profound’s FactCheck description, read on 29 October 2026, describes comparing factual claims with a company-controlled Knowledge Base and displaying source URLs. It distinguishes claim verification, source attribution and proposed remediation functions. Those are the supplier’s product statements, not a test we conducted.

Reasoned. A retained source URL and a contradictory official reference make a particular error reviewable. Neither the task label nor a supplier’s attribution feature establishes that a lookalike page caused a model’s answer.

What this means for you

Read the claim itself. Profound’s FactCheck description distinguishes factual, actionable claims containing one verifiable assertion from subjective statements routed to Sentiment. For a suspected lookalike problem, that supplies a specific review object: the asserted company fact, rather than the tone of the whole answer.

The AppFolio task illustrates why access alone cannot settle accuracy. Its initial Describe session ended on 6 October with found and reached both true, while correct was false. A server request or a successful visit therefore would not resolve the disputed description recorded in that task.

For your company reference, Profound describes building its Knowledge Base by crawling a domain, uploading files or syncing Google Drive and Notion content. The saved product description says a claim view displays the ground truth and where it is defined. That is a concrete source artifact to inspect when distinguishing a company’s stated policy from a similar-looking name on another domain.
