Does AI search replace SEO?

No. For Google’s AI features, the published guidance still depends on ordinary search eligibility and useful, accessible content. Our CRM panel captured on 22 September 2026 recorded a HubSpot-domain citation in 6 of 30 Google AI Overviews answers. That is an additional answer-source observation to examine beside SEO records, rather than evidence that a site no longer needs its search foundations.

What we measured

Measured. Our original CRM panel used ten questions and three Google AI Overviews returns per question. Six of the thirty valid answers included a HubSpot-owned source URL. The count concerns answer-level domain citations; it does not count visits to HubSpot, search impressions or buyers.

Reported. Google’s AI-feature documentation, read on 29 October 2026, says the familiar SEO practices remain relevant. A supporting page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet. Its guidance does not require special AI files or a special schema.org type. The saved documentation places AI-feature performance within the Web search reporting type.

Reasoned. Technical eligibility and an observed cited URL answer different questions. Our six citations cannot show what changed in HubSpot’s organic traffic or prove that an SEO change caused an AI answer.

What this means for you

The six retained HubSpot-owned URLs are product pages. The B2B-sales-team question contributes three Sales Hub links, one per Overviews return. The complex-sales-pipeline question adds the same destination in its second return. Four use /products/sales. They are observations of those returned source links, not evidence that HubSpot changed its markup or gained a visit.

The other two links are the CRM product page, in the first and second Overviews returns for replacing spreadsheets. The third spreadsheet answer does not contribute a HubSpot-owned URL to this count. A domain total alone would hide that the six observations came from three buyer questions and two destinations.
