What does LLM in AI mean?

LLM stands for large language model, a system trained on text to predict sequences of smaller language units called tokens. Generating such a sequence does not establish a product fact. For HubSpot CRM, Wrong About You records 47 classified statements, including 2 marked wrong. The source answers date to 22 September 2026; their reference was checked on 8 October 2026. One retained example misstated the free tier's contact allowance.

What we measured

Reported. Google's language-model introduction, read on 30 October 2026, defines a token as a word, part of a word or character. Its Transformer lesson explains a common LLM architecture, self-attention and parameters adjusted during training. OpenAI's search help separately describes retrieving web information and displaying source links.

Measured. Our published statement-review method compares retained claims with dated references. The HubSpot row separates forty-seven statements into thirty-one true, two wrong and fourteen unverifiable entries, with none stale. The million-contact free-tier claim retains three Claude observations and the vendor page read on 8 October. Team review: in progress. These statement checks did not inspect the model's training data or internal computations.

Reasoned. The technical definition concerns language generation; the retained contact-limit example shows why its generated commercial claim still needs a separate reference.

What this means for you

A token is not always a word. Google's introduction explains that splitting text into smaller units lets a language model estimate likely continuations within a surrounding sequence. Its context example distinguishes a fruit from a colour using the surrounding language. Here, context means information in that sequence, rather than a guarantee that a current product page has been consulted.

The Transformer lesson explains how self-attention weighs relationships among input tokens. It distinguishes a full encoder-and-decoder design from encoder-only and decoder-only variants; the latter generate further tokens from the text already produced. During training, parameter values are adjusted as the model learns patterns. Those architectural terms describe how text is represented and generated, rather than a list of verified customer-account facts.

Web search is a separate documented capability in the ChatGPT help page. For your reading of a company claim, its linked source is therefore a record to inspect, not an implication contained in the abbreviation LLM. In the published HubSpot example, the September answer asserted a million-contact allowance. The retained October vendor reference states a thousand contacts, so the study records the disagreement with both dates attached.
