Do AI product answers cite Reddit?

23 of 30 Google AI Overviews records in our original Index radiology category cited Reddit on 22 September 2026; none of the 30 ChatGPT records contained a Reddit URL. That contrast is why an answer about product citations needs to name the engine and the category being counted.

What we measured

Measured. The September Index release and method retain 150 original records in the radiology and medical-imaging category: ten fixed questions, three returns for each of five engines. We count reddit.com once per answer, including its subdomains, rather than counting every link occurrence. The original base is 30 for each engine.

Engine Records citing Reddit Valid records
ChatGPT 0 30
Claude 0 30
Perplexity 20 30
Google AI Overviews 23 30
Google AI Mode 17 30

The pooled count is 60/150. These citation counts do not measure all product queries, visits from the links or Reddit's effect on the answer.

Reasoned. Combining the engines would hide that all sixty Reddit-citing records come from three engines: Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. Use that observed source distribution when deciding what an aggregate citation figure means.

What this means for you

Match the engine to the claim. If you are reporting about ChatGPT, use its zero-of-thirty recorded Reddit result for this panel rather than the pooled 60-of-150 value. For Google AI Overviews, the corresponding observed value is twenty-three of thirty. That choice changes the statement you can make about the captured answers even though the category, question set and capture date stay fixed.

Keep co-cited sources together. One Overview record contains both a PACSAdmin Reddit thread URL and an intelerad.com link. A vendor host and Reddit can therefore be present in the same recorded answer, rather than occupying mutually exclusive positions in a source ranking. The Intelerad link in that record ends how-does-pacs-work-together-with-radiology-information-systems/.
