Which AI is best for SEO?
Compare ChatGPT Search and Perplexity Pro Search against a factual SEO research task whose sources you can check: our September CRM release recorded Salesforce-domain citations in 19 of 30 ChatGPT answers, compared with 3 of 30 Perplexity answers from 22 September 2026. Those observations compare returned sources, rather than ranking skill or improvements to a website.
What we measured
Measured. The original CRM records contain ten buyer questions with three returns per engine. Each engine’s domain-citation base is thirty valid answers. An answer with two Salesforce-owned URLs contributes one to its engine’s count, not two independent confirmations.
The nineteen-versus-three difference concerns a checked supplier’s own sources in this panel. It is not a measure of how much either assistant understands technical SEO, whether its recommendations were implemented or what happened to rankings afterwards.
Reported. ChatGPT’s search help describes current web retrieval with source links. Perplexity’s Pro Search documentation describes a research process for questions needing deeper exploration. Those are provider descriptions of features, separate from our observed Salesforce URLs.
Reasoned. Compare the assistant’s ability to retrieve the actual source, distinguish the relevant passages and preserve dates. The panel cannot tell you which product will deliver better search performance for your site.
What this means for you
For a pricing-comparison brief, the growing-B2B-sales-team question supplies a concrete source check. All three ChatGPT returns cite Salesforce’s sales pricing page. Three repeats of that source remain one supplier’s pricing publication; they do not become three independent price confirmations or a test of the draft’s search ranking.
For handoffs and follow-up, the ChatGPT records vary in the type of Salesforce document they return. One contains Help and Trailhead links about tasks and the sales process; another contains task-creation and sales-engagement help; the third links the CRM project-management page. Read the passage before using one of those pages to support a claim about the others.
The three Perplexity Salesforce-source answers all belong to the scaling-sales-team question. Their retained link is the same Salesforce small-business CRM article. Three repeats cite that one blog. A shortlist of source hosts would conceal that all three observations came from the same question and destination.
