What sizes of dental practice use Dentrix Ascend for scheduling and billing?
For a practice working across locations, Dentrix Ascend publishes scheduling and billing functions for that setup; its solutions page also addresses single-location practices. Our September Index named Ascend in all three ChatGPT answers to the DSO and multiple-location question, captured on 22 September 2026. That measures an answer context, not the sizes of its installed customer base.
What we measured
Reported. The supplier’s scheduling article describes a calendar spanning locations through an operatory group, subject to location access and scheduling rights. Its billing tutorial, created in August 2025, describes shared patient records, one ledger, and billing or receiving payment across locations. These are published functions; we did not log into a practice account.
The supplier’s Smalltown Dental account describes a practice that began in 2018 and expanded from two to eight locations by 2020. It is one supplier-reported customer example. The retained account does not establish that every starting location already used Ascend, or that the software caused the expansion.
Measured. Our released dental panel contains ten questions, with three returns per engine for each. ChatGPT named Dentrix Ascend three times for the DSO question and zero times for the very-small-office question. The questions differ in more than size; these six returns cannot estimate adoption among either group.
Reasoned. The documentation establishes how the supplier describes single- and multi-location use. A customer example establishes one reported case. Neither source provides a census of customers by dentist count, headcount or practice revenue.
What this means for you
Check location permissions first. The scheduling guide makes the multi-location switch conditional on access to more than one location and the relevant scheduling right. Its operatory groups determine which locations and rooms appear together. That is a more specific starting point for a scheduling discussion than treating every group practice as one identical setup.
Trace the billing location separately. The August 2025 tutorial says bulk statements use the guarantor’s preferred location, while eStatement payments return to the sending location. Those rules matter when a patient attends more than one office. The three DSO naming observations do not test those payment paths, and the small-office zero does not contradict the supplier’s single-location positioning.
